Accepting others

We live in a world where we are surrounded by different people, different cultures, languages, foods, traditions, and so much more.

It is important we learn to spread kindness and respect one another. We cannot discriminate against each other and make fun of each other based on where we come from or what culture is in our blood.

Spreading love is beautiful in a world filled with so much hate.
Because of this, stereotypes are important to avoid.

What are sterotypes

According to all4kids.org, Stereotypes are "An assumption about what someone will do or how they will behave based on what social groups they belong to, such as race."

Examples:

Spreading mean comments or stereotypical views about a person based on what social group they belong to is hurtful. Some people do this to be "funny" or based on what they hear at home.

How to help

Spreading hate is not humorous. If you see actions like this occurring, please speak up! Always tell a trusted adult, parent/guardian, or school staff.

Challenging the idea of "Normal"

Hate against others is rooted often from those who view people not like themselves, as the "other". This also ties into a lack of understanding people who are different from yourself, which can lead to rude remarks about one's way of life. We as the youth generation need to educate others about breaking the concept of normality. Everyone is different from each other, and it is up to us to understand one's differences and accept them for who they are.

Be Mindful

Always be mindful of ones differences in a conversation and make sure to respect them. This goes back to the golden rule that we were all taught as kids, respect. Treat others how you would want to be treated and that is the number one thing that we should all be doing.

Unlearn your bias

Lastly, it's important to unlearn your own built up bias over the years. Whether you know it or not, everyone has a bias. So, how can this be helped? Explore! Experience life from a different country, a different culture, another household, be interested in someones own experiences, and learn! You simply cannot read about another culture and understand everything it has to offer. Take it as a learning experience and indulge yourself in your differences.

We must battle against these comments and make our community as open and loving as possible. It is never okay to say something racist or stereotypical to another individual. Choose kindness always and help our world get closer together.

- Mental H2O Team

The more love you spread, the world may seem nicer to others, even to your friends or family.

Keep up the good work, we are so proud of you!
