Dealing with Bullying

If you are a victim of bullying, please contact an adult immediately.

People who bully want to feel in control or are deeply insecure people. Bullying causes depression and suicide in kids and teens, here is how we can out a stop to it.

Cyber bullying

Cyber bullying is online bullying. Different examples include mean comments and harassment on social media platforms. If you're on social media and see that bullying occurs both on and off the platform, use the block, report, or mute buttons. Blocking the individual who is bullying you on social media prevents them from accessing and contacting your social media, making things a bit simpler.

Bullying

Homophobic bullying based on your sexual orientation

Sexist bullying centered on the fact that you are the opposite sex

Racist bullying because of your skin color

Ethnicity religious bullying because of your beliefs or faith

Tell your parent(s)/guardian(s).

It might be difficult to tell your parents if you are being bullied. It is, however, tremendously courageous and can be one of the best things you can do. When you inform them, they can be supportive and assist you in putting a stop to the bullying.

Tell your teacher.

It's not always possible to notify your parents that you're being bullied. If this is the case, I would advise you to notify a teacher you trust. Teachers have a responsibility of care to you while you are at school, and telling a teacher means they must follow the proper procedures to ensure it is followed up on and dealt with properly.

Ways to combat Bullying

Be assertive

You steal their power and cause them to lose influence when you show them that you are confident and that their methods aren't working.

It is important you are assertive and show that you are not one to be messed with! Tell them off in a respectful manner, often times bully's want to gain validation from others by bullying.

Neutral

They expect a strong reaction. They are more likely to give up if you remain neutral and do your best to ignore the behavior.

If they continue, please contact school staff or tell a trusted adult. Bullying will not be tolerated.

Compassion

Try not to take their commentary personally and spread compassion. These bullies are quite often dealing with personal issues, have been mistreated at home, or are under psychological stress.

This in no way excuses their behavior, and they must accept responsibility. This is just some background information for you.

"No matter how isolated you feel, there is always someone you can talk to and someone who can assist you."

Please contact a trusted adult if you are being bullied.
We are here for you.

Keep up the good work, we are so proud of you!
