Protecting yourself online

Technology is everywhere today, and it is not leaving anytime soon. Bad and dangerous things can happen when you go online unprotected.

Here is how we can protect ourselves and help protect each other!

Rules & Tips

- Only visit websites appropriate and suitable for your age.

- Everything stays on the internet forever, even when you delete it.

- Never tell anyone your passwords, this is secret.

- Beware of strangers, never ever agree to meet your online friends in person.

- Be respectful and spread kindness, communicate with nice words only. Cyberbullying is sky-rising, and it is hurting our community.

- Do not click on ads that offer money, or that tell you that you won a prize. This is not real, and this is how hackers take your information.

- Never tell anyone online your personal information. This includes your first and last name, school you go to, city and state you live in, your age or birthday, or the names of your family members.

Let's protect each other, be smart on the web!

Victim of Cyberbullying?

Advice:

  1. Tell a trusted adult. Oftentimes cyberbullying can lead to in-person bullying which is why it's important to control the situation as soon as you can.
  2. Take note of the situation, what is happening, and the contact of the bully.
  3. Control gateways of contact. Block anyone trying to reach out to you, private your account, and do not respond to them. Bullies love to see a reaction out of those who they harass, it is what keeps them going. This is why it's important to block their way of contact as soon as you can, don't let them get to you.

What not to do:

  1. Do not engage with the bully as they will continue to try to come after you because of this.
  2. Do not come after the bully with others or your own harsh words.
  3. Do not think that it will go away quickly or in an instance. Bullies tend to keep pushing and pushing for a reaction, pushing the limits. This is also why it is important to keep track of what they have done.
  4. Do not give any type of personal information to the bully.

Keep trying. keep doing.

Keep up the good work, we are so proud of you!
